Basement Flooring
Basements can serve a wide variety of functions, from basic storage, to a guest bedroom, to housing a home gym. Regardless of how you choose to use it, what you decide to use for flooring is an important judgment. Basement flooring should be resilient, comfortable, easily cleaned, and durable.
The flooring you choose for your basement should be selected with versatility in mind. Carpeting is typically not a good choice as it is susceptible to water damage and stains. In addition, carpeting can be further damaged if the basement is ever used for a storage space. Finally, permanently adhering carpet to a basement floor can lower the value of your home after years of use and degradation. A bare cement floor is an option, of course, but it is far from comfortable. If you ever plan to use your basement for anything beyond storage, you’ll want something more attractive than bare cement.
Rubber is a good option for your basement. It is as durable and cleanable as bare cement, but it is far more comfortable. Rubber flooring with vinyl backing provides firm footing without being stuck to the floor. It is also available in a wide variety of styles and colors, and can be custom made. All of these elements should be taken into consideration when looking through your options.
