Rubber Molding

Rubber molding is a process in which liquid silicone rubber is injection molded to make smooth, strong products in large volumes. This process is necessary for several items, especially when higher quality is a must. Liquid silicone rubber is ideal for making high-precision parts because it is durable, resilient, and resistant to both heat and cold. Rubber mold products are typically used to make things such as seals, electrical connectors, and sealing membranes. It is also used to make products where smoothness is a necessity. For example, it’s ideal for making items meant for infants, such as bottle nipples.

There are several different types of molding. Liquid injection molding is the most common, but another type would be compression molding. This type is created when rubber is set inside a mold cavity, and then it is compressed by weight on the top and bottom. After that, the rubber is vulcanized. A third type of molding is transfer molding. The uncured rubber is pushed through a mold cavity and then vulcanized. The molds for liquid injection molding, compression molding, and transfer molding vary in size and detail. The type of molding will affect the smoothness and detail of the final product.
