Rubber Wheel Chocks
Wheel chocks are wedges placed behind wheels to keep them from rolling. Made from sturdy material, wheel chocks can be used with aircraft or with vehicles. Most wheel chocks have an additional layer of rubber on the bottom for a firm grip. Rubber is not corrosive, and it's durable and inexpensive. Rubber wheel chocks are especially useful if you have to jack a vehicle up by its back axel. A car's brakes are on the rear tires, so the front tires could slip and cause the car to fall without the use of rubber wheel chocks.
Federal regulations stipulate that all commercial trucks being loaded or unloaded should be chocked. Two rubber wheel chocks should be used when chocking a truck to avoid costly accidents and damage. Chocks should never be used on the unweighted axel of a truck.
Rubber wheel chocks come in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes. Each size and shape is appropriate for a different sort of aircraft, truck, car, or cart. You should be sure to buy the right rubber wheel chock for your vehicle. Rubber wheel chocks are not expensive. An important part of any unloading dock, rubber wheel chocks should not be overlooked.
